About People In Progress

For 35 years, People In Progress (P.I.P.) has provided intervention and support to individuals and families in crisis with services addressing substance abuse, economic deprivation, hunger and homelessness. We are creating self-reliance- building addiction-free lives.

Each year, P.I.P. provides services to more 25,000 individuals. It is our aim to help those we serve transition back into the community as productive citizens. 100 percent of our participants are living well below poverty level.  Our services are designed to provide disadvantaged individuals with access — whether directly or through referral — to the resources they need to reach self-sufficiency.

As a leader in delivery of alcohol/drug treatment services we provide critically needed services to the chronically homeless population suffering from alcohol and drug dependency, coupled with other mental and physical disabilities.

People in progress collaborates with local service providers to ensure our clients receive comprehensive services and to improve coordination of services.  We have developed a network of organizations that provide medical, housing, dental, mental health, legal, employment, vocational, youth art, youth tutoring, recovery, immigration and other services.

People In Progress today provides services to the County of Los Angeles under seven different contracts that are all funded from diversified funding sources. People In Progress also services three contracts with the City of Los Angeles, one contract with the Veterans Administration, and currently People In Progress is a sub-contractor to the Prison Parole Network of programs for the State of California.

People In Progress’ multi-service center provides outpatient services in Central City Los Angeles providing individualized case management for drug and alcohol addiction and is a provider of court mandated parenting, domestic violence, anger management and batterers education classes.

We strive to educate participants about community resources and help them learn how to access resources to increase wages, and gain access to other economic resources. participants are encouraged to use available computers and are given access to telephones for city resources including 311 and 211.

Through a well developed network of organizations we are able to provide referals for medical, housing, dental, mental health, legal and employment services.

Assessing the needs of the chronic homeless community, the New Elements Community Treatment program is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to work with the chronic homeless population who suffer from co-occurring disorders. The program is able to identify individuals and the needs of those individuals who have mental health disorders and substance abuse coupled with his or her chronic homeless status.

Youth attend People In Progress' after school program which serves youth participants ages 5-17. The program currently provides family resource referrals, benefits screening, parenting classes, tutoring, computer literacy, recreational activities, cultural activities, field trips, daily lunch and providing back to school supplies.
